The Best Things to do in Oahu for Free

So you’ve made the great decision to go to Oahu for your vacation. You’ve probably already booked your flights and your Oahu Vacation rentals, but now that you’ve spent all that money, how can you keep the cost of your vacation down? It’s simple, you look for some free activities to enjoy while you’re away.

If you’re wondering what you can do for free in Oahu, take a look below for more information:

Spend Time at the Beach

Spending time at the beach doesn’t need to cost anything at all. All you need to do is decide which beach you want to visit and get ready to enjoy a bit of time in the sun. Of course, you may be tempted to buy a few drinks and a bite to eat as one of the local eateries, but if you shop wisely you could still keep your costs quite low.

While you’re at the beach you may be offered a boat ride or even a scuba diving experience, but they can be quite pricey. Save your cash and simply enjoy spending time working on your tan, or building a few sand castles. Don’t forget to venture into the sea for a dip and perhaps a bit of a swim too, if the conditions are right, that is.

A day or two at the beach can be a wonderful way to enjoy your vacation, and make you feel as if you have left the rest of the world behind.

Go for a Picnic

Although you will have to pay for any food that you take on a picnic with you the cost of having a picnic can be relatively low. One of the great things about enjoying a picnic in Oahu is that there are many places to sit and enjoy your meal. Why not head to the beach and find a quiet spot that looks over the ocean? Take a walk around the town and find a park to eat in, or simply head back to your accommodation for a picnic.

Many people decide to go for a walk around Oahu and enjoy a spot of window shopping before they find somewhere to eat. This is something you may want to think about doing if you would like a day away from the beach. Take everything you need with you so you can sit down and enjoy a picnic when you’ve found the right spot. If the sun is beating down on you, make sure you can pop into a store and buy a few cold drinks for not much money at all, and sip on them as you enjoy the view.

Picnics are a great way for you to save a lot of money while you’re in Oahu, and they can also help you see a few sights and explore Oahu at your own pace.

Watch a Fireworks Display

If you love nothing more than to enjoy a fireworks display you need to head to the Hilton Hawaiian Village every Friday night. The fireworks display here is free and it’s usually very good. While many tourists are happy to go out and enjoy a few drinks in some of the local bars, you may prefer a fireworks show. Of course, there will be the opportunity to buy a few drinks while you’re there, but you don’t have to. Simply watch the show, sip on some drinks that you bought with you, and have a lot of fun.

The fireworks display starts at 7:45 pm, and it tends to last for 10 minutes. Although the display is not as long as some, it does take place every single Friday so if you’ve already been to one show why not go again next Friday? They are well worth a watch.

Taking place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, the ceremony usually starts at 6 pm or 6:30 pm depending on how dark it is. You should be aware that if a holiday is being celebrated in Oahu that the ceremony may not take place.
